Description
Zacuto Z-Rail Axis Mount
The Zacuto Z-Rail Axis Mount is a specialized and highly ergonomic mounting solution designed to attach Electronic Viewfinders (EVFs) and small on-board monitors to a camera rig that incorporates Zacuto’s Z-Rail (NATO Rail) system. It’s a crucial component for achieving precise and comfortable eye-level viewing, particularly in handheld or shoulder-mounted configurations.
This mount is distinguished by its multiple axes of adjustment and robust, single-lever locking mechanism, allowing operators to quickly position their EVF for optimal viewing and then securely lock it in place.
The Zacuto Z-Rail Axis Mount integrates a quick-release Z-Rail clamp on one end, enabling it to rapidly attach to and slide along any standard NATO rail. This provides flexibility in initial positioning on the rig. Extending from this clamp, the Axis Mount features a series of articulated joints (typically a ball joint at the base, followed by an extendable arm or a pivoting section, and another joint at the top).
The top of the mount usually terminates in a 1/4″-20 threaded screw (and often includes a 3/8″-16 adapter or a reversible stud) for attaching the EVF or monitor. The entire system is often controlled by a single, large red locking lever. This signature Zacuto lever simultaneously tightens all articulation points, providing an incredibly strong and reliable lock that prevents the EVF from slipping, even with vigorous camera movement. The design allows for a wide range of forward/backward, up/down, and rotational adjustments to perfectly align the EVF to the operator’s eye, whether they are operating from the shoulder, a tripod, or a dolly.
