Engineered to handle heavy broadcast equipment, the U50 combines a rigid U-shaped double frame with powerful, zero-backlash drives. This construction supports rapid acceleration and deceleration while helping prevent bounce during fast pans—even when working at long focal lengths.

Whether following motorsport action or tracking a fast-moving subject across a playing field, the U50 provides the strength and responsiveness needed for controlled camera movement. Its precise drive system helps operators make smooth adjustments with large telephoto lenses, where small unwanted movements can become especially noticeable.

Familiar Controls for Confident Operation

The U50 supports handwheels, pan-bar and joystick control, allowing operators to choose their preferred working style. Its button console provides adjustments for pan-and-tilt speed, input smoothing and direction, alongside user-defined movement limits, feathering and axis zeroing.

Through-centre cable routing in the gearboxes allows direct cable pass-through without slip rings, supporting high-bandwidth digital video connections. Together, these features make the U50 a practical solution for productions that need responsive movement and straightforward remote operation.

Flexible Operating Distances and Encoded Movement

The U50 offers operating distances of up to 100 metres through the system bus, 300 metres with optional radio, or 20 kilometres with an optical fibre bridge. Its VR encoder resolution exceeds two million counts per revolution, supporting workflows that require precise movement data.

Pan-and-tilt speeds reach 180° per second. The pan range is ±720°, subject to cable twist, while tilt reaches ±45°, depending on the camera and lens configuration. The head weighs 28 kg.

Proven in Professional Sports Production

At the 2023 Players Championship in Florida, Robovision deployed the U50 on a small island near the 17th hole, with an operator controlling it remotely. This arrangement reduced the camera position’s footprint and enabled discreet coverage while improving the operator’s working environment.
