Description
Freefly Systems Cutout Stainless Steel Wheel
The Freefly Systems Cutout Stainless Steel Wheel is an optional and highly desirable component for the Freefly MōVI Wheels control system, offering a refined tactile experience and a distinct aesthetic. Designed as an alternative to the standard or brass wheels, this specialized wheel provides a balance of precision, durability, and reduced weight for professional gimbal operators.
The Freefly Systems Cutout Stainless Steel Wheel is a single, precision-machined wheel module crafted from high-quality stainless steel. What sets it apart is its “cutout” design, where portions of the wheel’s mass are strategically removed. This design serves multiple purposes:
- Reduced Weight: The cutouts lighten the wheel compared to a solid stainless steel or brass wheel, which can be beneficial for operators who prefer a less inertial feel or are looking to minimize the overall weight of their control setup for quick setups or multi-location shoots.
- Aesthetic Appeal: The cutout pattern gives the wheel a modern, stylized, and high-tech appearance that aligns with Freefly’s premium brand image.
- Improved Grip (potentially): The edges of the cutouts can sometimes offer additional tactile feedback and grip points for the operator’s fingers.
While lighter than the brass version, the stainless steel still provides a substantial, quality feel with excellent durability and resistance to corrosion, ensuring longevity in demanding production environments.
This wheel module seamlessly integrates into the modular Freefly MōVI Wheels system. It features a 16-bit magnetic encoder for robust, precise, and low-latency input, translating every subtle rotation into incredibly accurate pan, tilt, or roll movements of the connected Freefly MōVI gimbal (MōVI Pro, MōVI XL, M5/M10/M15, MōVI Carbon). Operators can daisy-chain multiple wheel modules (up to nine) via a high-speed CAN network to control various axes, including pan, tilt, roll, focus, iris, and zoom, allowing for highly customized and complex control setups.
The Cutout Stainless Steel Wheel is compatible with both the Freefly MōVI Controller and the Freefly MIMIC controller, offering versatile options for integrating classic wheeled control into modern gimbal workflows. It allows operators to fine-tune wheel friction, gear ratios, and quickly assign axes, providing a highly personalized and precise control experience.
